A gold ring backdrop is a swoon worthy, versatile (stands on it’s own), and fairly reasonably priced backdrop to rent OR buy!
Step 1: rent or purchase a gold ring
Step one is always acquiring the item you’re planning to use. I owned a few size options of gold rings when I owned a balloon business. My 9.5ft gold ring was, by far, the hardest to assemble and required extra sets of hands to get it up! You can find lots of other size options out there and it’s important to remember that your ceiling height will matter when assembling a backdrop like this! For instance, even my 6ft diameter gold ring didn’t fit in my 1970’s 7ft ceiling home with balloons on it.
You can typically rent or purchase a gold ring for around $75. If you’re thinking “why would I rent to pay the same price as I can to buy?!” Just keep reading. These things are beasts to assemble and sometimes it’s worth it to pay for labor- especially when you’re planning a celebration that you’d like to enjoy.

Step 2: make the tiny parts a backdrop!
Most backdrop rings are a full circle with 2 legs, or an almost-full circle with a leg section.
- Set the leg pieces aside, as well as the pieces of the ring that fit into the legs. They will have extra holes in them.
- Place the basic ring parts in a separate pile.
- Assemble the basic ring section by either clicking the pieces in (kind of like a razor scooter handle’s height adjustment) or inserting nuts & bolts. I prefer the type that snaps in, if you can take note of that when purchasing your gold ring… it will be a lot smoother.
- Prepare to pinch your fingers. A lot. It’s just part of the process no matter which assembly option you choose.
- Add the legs to the bottom!
- Standing the ring up is surprisingly tricky. While assembling you want to do everything sideways on the ground. If you’re alone, I recommend tying a piece of string to the top and pulling it up. If you have a friend, have each person stand at the side to stand it up!
Add extras to the gold ring backdrop
Whether you’re a floral person or a balloon person (or a little of both) this backdrop always takes pictures to the next level when you’ve added a few extras!
