As a balloon artist, the smallest details can make a big difference in your work. One of those details is the condition of your hands before you even begin creating a balloon garland. Prepping your hands isn’t just a nice-to-do—it’s a must-do to ensure your garland looks perfect and stays intact.

Here’s how I get my hands ready before diving into any balloon project.

Remove Rings and Bracelets to Prevent Balloon Popping

First things first, I take off any rings or bracelets that might snag or pop the balloons.

While jewelry can add flair to your outfit, it’s a nightmare for balloons. A simple scrape from a ring or the edge of a bracelet is enough to ruin hours of work, so I keep my hands free of anything that could cause an accidental pop.

Check Your Polish

Next, I give my gel manicure a quick check. It might sound like a small detail, but I swear by it—bare nails, especially those with chipped polish, are more likely to pop balloons.

A smooth, polished surface is less likely to cause any issues, which is why I always make sure my nails are in perfect shape before starting a garland.

A Gel Manicure: A Balloon Artist’s Business Expense

Now, let’s talk about gel manicures. I 100% believe that a gel manicure is a necessary business expense for all balloon artists! Not only does it keep your nails looking professional, but it also helps protect the balloons from accidental pops caused by rough edges or bare nails.

Plus, it’s an investment in your craft—keeping your hands in top condition ensures your creations are flawless and your clients are happy.

Prepping your hands might seem like a small step, but it’s crucial for creating beautiful, durable balloon garlands. So, next time you’re about to start a project, take a few minutes to make sure your hands are ready for the job. Your balloons—and your clients—will thank you!
